In our family, we have all five birthdays between August 9 and October 14. It seems I'm constantly sending out thank-you notes and invitations simultaneously! But tomorrow, when I deliver my last round of frosted cookies to Noah's classroom, I will be done. I began a new tradition of baking whatever shape cake the kids ask for and it has allowed me some artistic expression. And in the process, my boys turned 10, 7, and 4. I have my first "double-digit" boy, and that comes with a dose of reality: these years go by so fast. When Ben turns ten, Noah will have his license and Caleb will have just become a teenager!
So, I finish up the "Lampron Birthday Season" with a lot of relief to find it over, but also with the heavy heart of a mother who knows one day I'll wish my boys were 10, 7, and 4. In the meantime, I'll craft alligator-shaped cakes, figure out how to make a beach towel out of gum, and will actually serve guests cake decorated with black and red icing.
Other fun events happened since my last post: Caleb has started cub scouts and is the most adorable tiger cub ever! Noah made the Essex United "A" team, finally! Both boys wrapped up fall soccer last weekend with another fun soccer jamboree. And, Ben's best friend Thomas turned four! He loves to cook, so his party had a "Chef" theme and I got to make a stove-shaped cake with a little pink cake on top just for Thomas!
We have lots of trips coming up: I'm in Lake George with girlfriends this weekend and Mike and the boys are in Arlington. Next week the boys and I will drive down to Poughkeepsie to see Mike's condo, and then we'll travel wherever we have to to see the Arlington Memorial High School Boys and Girls soccer teams inch toward the State Championships, thanks to my niece Chrissy, my nephews Taylor and Jake, and Mike's brother Andrew. We are so proud!
Winter Schedule
The Winter Schedule is one of the quietest times for our family. The best part of the winter season is - by far - skiing. We love seeing our boys put their fearlessness to use, to see them proud of their progress, and to see them together on a beautiful Vermont mountain. Aside from skiing, basketball, indoor soccer, cub scouts, and music lessons (wait, that is beginning to sound like a lot), there isn't much going on here! No big trips - no tournaments - no special occasions, just the basic schedule and lots of weekends at Bolton Valley.
